∂ Lab. (Partial Lab)

∂ Lab. is a research lab that Mikawa Industry Inc. established jointly with the Nishimura Laboratory inside the Kanazawa University Innovation Airport. Its goal is to bring research-level robotics to working deployment on the industrial floor by the shortest route.

From research to deployment on the floor.

Robotics research often stops at papers and simulations. At ∂ Lab., students, researchers and Mikawa Industry Inc.’s field engineers work in the same place, running design, AI implementation, additive manufacturing and mechanical integration as a single loop. By connecting university research directly to our design and manufacturing platform (nTop, Carbon DLS, 3D scanning), we maximize the speed of iteration between research and deployment.

We also work with our group company Cistron, a Physical AI developer, to accelerate the deployment of Physical AI in industry.

Research areas

∂ Lab. conducts broad research on Physical AI — AI that operates in the physical world. From perception, grasping and manipulation, learning and control, and Sim2Real / Real2Sim bridging simulation and real machines, to the robot hardware that supports them, we cover everything from research to deployment.

  • Perception: understanding environments and objects with cameras and sensors
  • Grasping and manipulation: robot hands, end effectors and manipulation skills
  • Learning and control: acquiring behaviors through imitation learning, reinforcement learning and more
  • Sim2Real / Real2Sim: two-way loops between simulation and real machines
  • Hardware: robot mechanisms and functional parts using additive manufacturing
